Tournament Overview
The Tasmanian Game Fishing Association successfully hosted the prestigious Australian International Billfish Tournament (AIBT) for the first time in its remarkable 61-year history. This event, a milestone in Australian sports fishing, brought together fishing enthusiasts from across the nation, sparking widespread excitement and anticipation.
The tournament marked a significant first in Australian waters, focusing on the Broadbill Swordfish (Xiphias Gladius) - a species celebrated for its formidable presence and strength, earning it the title of the ultimate sea gladiator. This choice highlighted Tasmania's status as a premier location for game fishing, thanks to its well-managed, sustainable fishery and record-breaking catches that have drawn international acclaim.
The Tournament was held in Tasmania 06 - 19 April 2024, over the course of 14 days, 30 teams participated, with each team selecting 7 days to fish. This structured competition showcased the skill and passion of the anglers, contributing to a memorable and historic event in the world of game fishing.
